Seat reservations

A Rail Pass will give you access to the majority of train networks and several ferry crossings in Europe. However, it is good to stay alert that you may need to reserve a seat on high-speed trains, ferries, and some scenic and night trains, for which there is an additional cost. This reservation fee gives you the peace of mind of having a guaranteed seat (or bed) on a specific train. It sometimes includes also additional amenities such as free Wi-Fi and refreshments served on board. To avoid disappointment, book your seat reservation in advance of travel (especially for trips in the busy summer high season). Most seats are available to book two to three months ahead.

Download the Rail Planner App where you can find information on which trains require a seat reservation, and you can book it via the app.
