The 100 series high-speed trains first came into operation in April 1992 on the newly opened Madrid-Seville line. They were a development of the TGV Atlantic with different modifications to adapt them to Spanish operating conditions and the market, such as a new system to reduce the effect of pressure waves in tunnels, more powerful air conditioning and the inclusion of LZB and Asfa control and signalling equipment. A technical and interior remodelling was finalised in summer 2009 after 15 years of service to adapt the trains to customer requirements.
